So that you know what you work for…!

Dr. med. Björn Birkenhauer (Bruderkrankenhaus, Montabaur) zusammen mit interessierten vietnamesischen Ärzten, bei der Planungsbesprechung der OP

Dr. med. Björn Birkenhauer (Brüderkrankenhaus, Montabaur) together with doctors from Vietnam at plan consultation.

Dr. med. Björn Birkenhauer (Brüder-Hospital, Montabaur) as a part of an international training unit on endoprothesia was approached by colleagues from Vietnam to receive advise for a complicated case.

The 29 year old patient has been in a wheelchair for years due to a progressive, rheumatic joint disorder and could not pursue her profession as a nurse. The enormous issue was not only humane side of it all but also financial issue the patient was suffering due to lack of a social system.

Dr. med. Birkenhauer, Ms. Tam Ngyuen (Managing Director of our partner company Vietnam “Hanoi IEC”) and Mr. Kistmacher (Managing Director of K-implant) spontaneously declared to help and organized a sponsored surgery with “special implants” (femoral neck endoprosthesis and PreCup full ceramic). The combination has not been yet used in Vietnam. The interest in the surgery was so great, that it was streamed LIVE in a lecture theater and a total of around 50 doctors an nurses took part.

The patient thanked us a year later with a hand-made work of art at K-implant and the involved surgeons after the succesful surgery.

Especially touching was the portrayal of hers ascent from a sacred mountain during a demanding tour as a part pilgrimage. When se had reached the peak, she stood up and cried in disbelief as she would never imagine it could happen in this lifetime. The patient has once again preceded her profession and her movement is no longer restricted in any manner.
